4A Games has released a free next-generation update for METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux on Xbox Series X|S. The update, announced by Xbox on Thursday, Oct. 29, adds higher-resolution and higher-frame-rate options alongside visual, animation and controller improvements.
After installing the update, players can choose between true 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and an upscaled 4K mode running at 120 frames per second. The games also add support for 4A TSR upscaling and antialiasing, technologies intended to improve image clarity while maintaining the selected performance targets.
Visual changes across both games
The update revises the presentation of both Redux titles beyond their resolution and frame-rate settings. 4A Games has updated textures, lighting and shadows, environmental detail and animation fidelity across the games’ post-apocalyptic settings. Xbox said the changes apply throughout both titles, including their corridors and other environments.
The developer said it tuned the improvements to preserve the original look and feel of METRO 2033 and METRO: Last Light. The two games were originally released as updated versions of 4A Games’ first-person shooters, which are set in a ruined world where survivors live in Moscow’s underground metro system.
Controller and Play Anywhere support
On compatible Xbox controllers, the update adds support for Impulse Triggers. The feature uses the controller’s trigger feedback to provide tactile responses during play. Xbox also said the update includes full support and optimization for Xbox Ally and Ally X handheld devices.
