Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches Nov. 6, bringing new multiplayer maps, returning modes, Battle Pass weapons and a new location for DMZ. The seasonal update is free, but access to the game’s multiplayer and DMZ content still requires ownership of Modern Warfare 4. Warzone’s Season 1 begins on the same date as part of the broader rollout.
PlayStation Blog’s Season 1 rundown lists three multiplayer maps for the start of the season: Backstab, Canyon and a redesigned version of Shoot House set in a snowy North Korean environment. Backstab is built around abandoned tanks and poor weather, while Canyon places matches between tall rock formations.
Two modes are also scheduled for the season’s opening day. Grind returns with teams collecting enemy dog tags and depositing them at a bank to score. Drop Zone also comes back, centering matches on a moving objective where killstreak packages fall during the fight.
- Backstab, Canyon and Shoot House arrive as the launch-day multiplayer maps.
- Grind and Drop Zone return as the opening modes.
- X01 becomes the new DMZ location, while two weapons enter the Battle Pass.
More multiplayer content is planned for the middle of the season. The announced additions include Ministry, a map set around an embassy, Overflow, which combines a factory with surrounding farmland, and Counter Attack, a mode built around destroying an opposing team’s Comm Station while protecting your own.
The Season 1 Battle Pass adds the Cronen Osprey assault rifle and the CSG-35 submachine gun. The latter is described as having the highest fire rate in its weapon class. The pass uses a 100-tier progression track, and players who purchase it can be advanced to the reward corresponding to the current day of the season, up to day 50, if they fall behind.
DMZ and Warzone additions
DMZ’s new Season 1 area is X01, a weapons facility occupied by the enemy. Warzone receives two maps on Nov. 6 as well: Hajin and Zodiac. Warzone remains the free-to-play portion of the release, while the multiplayer and DMZ components of the season are tied to the paid Modern Warfare 4 game.
The Nov. 6 date had already appeared on Infinity Ward’s roadmap and was repeated by PlayStation on Oct. 28. The seasonal launch time has not been announced.
