Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch Dec. 3, 2026, Nightdive Studios, Atari and Eidos Interactive announced Monday. The remaster of Looking Glass Studios’ original stealth game is scheduled for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox.

The project returns to the first game in the Thief series and follows Garrett, the master thief introduced in the original release. Nightdive Studios is rebuilding the game in its KEX Engine as part of a broader restoration that also adds visual and quality-of-life changes.

What the remaster includes

The updated version includes the original game’s 12 missions along with the three missions added in the Thief: Gold update. Nightdive also lists support for visuals of up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, although the announcement describes those figures as maximum capabilities rather than a universal performance target.

  • A rebuild in Nightdive’s KEX Engine
  • The 12 missions from Thief: The Dark Project
  • Three additional missions from Thief: Gold
  • Weapon and item wheels intended to improve navigation
  • Behind-the-scenes documentation about the game’s development

The project also adds weapon and item wheels as quality-of-life features. A collection of behind-the-scenes material about the making of the game will be included as part of the remaster’s documentation archive.

Nightdive first officially unveiled Thief: The Dark Project Remastered in June 2026. The new release is being developed in collaboration with Eidos Interactive and Atari, connecting the restoration to the series’ original publisher and rights holders while preserving the campaign content from the first game.

Digital and physical preorders are available for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Nightdive said those physical editions will be offered in Standard, Steelbook and Trapezoid formats. The release date for the remaster across the announced platforms is Dec. 3.
