Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey by three months, moving its release from Feb. 16, 2027, to May 20, 2027. The studio said the additional time will be used to complete work on the game.
The delay was announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, in a message from the PlayStation studio. Santa Monica Studio said it appreciated the response to the game’s reveal in June and would continue working on the project before its new release date.
“With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th, 2027. We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.”

Faye leads the new story
God of War Laufey is the first mainline entry in the series to feature a protagonist other than Kratos. Players control Faye, also known as Laufey the Just. She is Kratos’ Norse wife and Atreus’ mother, whose death occurs before the events of the 2018 game God of War.
The game’s story begins when Faye awakens in an unfamiliar land after her funeral. The plans she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are threatened, sending her into the Everywhen, an afterlife realm where gods from different mythologies compete for power. The setting includes dangerous magic and enemies drawn from those mythological traditions.
- New release date: May 20, 2027
- Previous release date: Feb. 16, 2027
- Lead character: Faye, or Laufey the Just
- Primary setting: The Everywhen
Santa Monica Studio said it plans to share more updates about the game before launch. The studio also thanked players for their patience as development continues. The new date places the game later than the February window previously announced, but the project remains scheduled for 2027.
The announcement follows the game’s June reveal, which introduced Faye’s journey through the Everywhen and established its connection to the events surrounding God of War and God of War Ragnarök. Santa Monica Studio’s latest statement focused on the revised date and the remaining finishing work.
