Bethesda has revealed the official title of its next mainline Elder Scrolls game: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement came Tuesday, Nov. 3, during a video marking the studio’s 40th anniversary.
Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard appeared in the video to discuss several of the company’s major series. Near the end, the presentation turned to The Elder Scrolls VI, which Bethesda first announced in 2018 with a short teaser.
The new name identifies Sentinel, a location associated with the province of Hammerfell in the Elder Scrolls setting. Bethesda also described the announcement as a reveal of both the game’s full name and the location players will visit. The studio said development is continuing and that more information will be shared when the team is ready.
“The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.”
The passage appears at the end of the teaser and is attributed to Yazar, identified as the Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell in the year 4E 206. The wording provides the announcement’s principal story detail while Bethesda’s title supplies the clearest indication yet of the game’s location.
What Bethesda has confirmed
- The game’s official name is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
- Bethesda has linked the reveal to Hammerfell through the location and the teaser’s character background.
- Development remains in progress, with additional information planned for a later date.
The announcement arrives more than eight years after The Elder Scrolls VI was first shown. That 2018 teaser offered a landscape and the game’s logo, but no title or release information. Bethesda subsequently focused on other projects, including Starfield, which launched in September 2023.
Sentinel is also a notable name within the series’ established setting. It is associated with Hammerfell, the desert province of the Redguards, and connects the new game to a region previously featured prominently in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Bethesda has now confirmed the title and location while keeping the game’s release timing and other details for a future announcement.
