A new The Sims 4 mod preview shows Sims moving between lots in the same neighborhood without the loading screens that normally separate them. The proof of concept was highlighted by SimsCommunity on Tuesday, with footage showing a household in Willow Creek’s Foundry Cove neighborhood.
The mod is designed to keep the lots in one neighborhood loaded at the same time. In the preview, two Sims can move between properties while the surrounding homes remain active, rather than switching to a separate loading sequence for each lot. SimsCommunity also described the household as continuing to live while the player travels between locations.
How the preview differs from the standard game
The Sims 4 has used loading screens whenever a Sim travels to another lot since its 2014 launch. That includes trips to community venues, other worlds and neighboring homes. The structure differs from The Sims 3, which shipped in 2009 with open worlds that allowed Sims to move through neighborhoods without loading each lot separately.
Previous Sims developers have described the loading-screen design as a way to preserve performance across platforms and a wide range of computers. The game’s rentals system has also used the same general approach. SimsCommunity previously reported that modder Tyjokr created an open-apartment mod for The Sims 4: For Rent, another project aimed at changing how nearby living spaces operate.
EA said it couldn't be done...
The latest preview was shared by the creator known as Frooot_Simmer, who has also been associated with one of the few mods that add cars to The Sims 4, according to SimsCommunity. The footage contains no narration and focuses on the in-game movement between lots.
- The preview takes place in Willow Creek’s Foundry Cove.
- Two Sims move between lots without a visible loading screen.
- Household activity continues while the Sims travel between properties.
The project is presented as a working neighborhood proof of concept rather than an official feature from Electronic Arts. Its approach treats the lots within a neighborhood as part of a shared active space, allowing Sims to move between them in a way that resembles the flow of an open neighborhood.
The preview does not change the official design of The Sims 4. Players would need the mod itself once it is released, and compatibility may depend on the game’s version and other installed modifications. For now, the video demonstrates the proposed behavior: nearby lots can remain active together, reducing the interruption normally associated with neighborhood travel.
