The standout scene in question, known as the Selkiemore scene, showcased Cavill’s acting prowess. Speaking at WitcherCon 2021, Cavill recounted what transpired behind the scenes. On that day, Cavill had his American Akita, Kal, with him on set. Unfortunately, Kal managed to escape from Cavill’s trailer and made his way to the scene, but ended up getting his paw caught in a hole on the trailer’s step, resulting in a severe injury.
Describing the incident, Cavill said, “And there [were] these metal stairs outside the trailer… Kal got one of his claws stuck in it as he jumped off and all I heard him do is yelp… It turns out the injury was much worse as the poor creature had actually ripped his claw all the way off apart from a little bit.”
Despite the initial concern, Kal ultimately recovered from the injury. It is no secret that Cavill has a deep affection for his furry companion, often sharing photos of them together on his Instagram account. During the filming of The Witcher, Cavill frequently had Kal with him on set, although the dog spent most of his time in the trailer due to his energetic nature.
Cavill explained, “Because when he can see me, but he can’t get to me, he tends to start making a lot of noise… We didn’t want him running in halfway through a scene or a sword fight especially, because he would be taking people down. But he was always there.”
The incident serves as a reminder of the bond between humans and their pets, with Cavill’s love for Kal evident throughout his time on The Witcher set.
