The Profitability of Xbox Game Pass: How Much Revenue is Generated?

Xbox Game Pass is a popular subscription service that allows players to access a wide range of AAA games and classic titles for a monthly fee. With 25 million subscribers, it’s no surprise that this service generates a significant amount of revenue for Microsoft.

According to a slide deck released during the FTC vs. Microsoft case, Xbox Game Pass generates an average of $9.26 per subscriber. With 25 million subscribers, this means that Xbox’s estimated revenue in April 2022 was approximately $231.5 million.

In addition to console users, there are also 3.1 million PC Game Pass subscribers who pay the full price of $9.99 per month. This aligns closely with the average revenue generated by console subscribers.

The revenue received a significant boost when Xbox added Live Gold members to the Game Pass subscription base. With 11.7 million Live Gold subscribers, the total number of Game Pass subscribers increased to 36 million.

However, it’s important to note that these figures do not take into account the potential growth of Game Pass members with the release of Starfield. Despite the game being available on Game Pass, it remains popular on other platforms such as Steam.

With the current performance of Game Pass and the addition of future titles like Starfield, it is expected that the revenue generated by the service will continue to increase.
