Microsoft’s bid to acquire Activision Blizzard has revealed new information about The Elder Scrolls 6. According to leaked documents, the highly anticipated game will be released exclusively for Xbox and PC, excluding PlayStation and any other platforms.
While the release date for The Elder Scrolls 6 remains uncertain, the documents suggest it is expected to launch in 2026 or later. This news may disappoint fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game’s arrival.
The Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer was released back in 2018, announcing the game’s development. Since then, there has been limited information about the title, and it is likely that the studio’s strategy has changed significantly, especially after Bethesda Softworks was acquired by Microsoft in 2021.
It has been almost 12 years since the release of the last core entry in the series, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In that time, Bethesda Softworks published both The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which played a crucial role in the series’ mainstream success.
Court documents from the FTC versus Microsoft case have also revealed other developments related to The Elder Scrolls franchise. A remaster of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was initially planned for 2022, and a remake of Fallout 3 was in the works for 2024.
Rumors of an Oblivion remake surfaced after a deleted post by a former Virtuos Games employee. Virtuos Games, known for their work on The Outer Worlds remaster, was reportedly developing the remake. The studio had previously collaborated with Obsidian, which created the fan-favorite Fallout: New Vegas.
In recent news, Bethesda Softworks’ latest release, Starfield, has become the fifth biggest video game launch in Europe. Despite the competition, The Elder Scrolls VI is expected to have even higher expectations, considering the massive success of Skyrim, which has sold over 60 million copies to date.
