Supermicro Unveils New NVIDIA MGX Systems at OCP Summit 2023

Supermicro recently announced several new NVIDIA MGX systems, including the highly anticipated Supermicro ARS-111GL-NHR server featuring the upcoming NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper part. At the OCP Summit 2023, Supermicro showcased the server, revealing its key specifications and features.

The ARS-111GL-NHR server is equipped with a 72-core Arm Neoverse V2 processor and 480GB of LPDDR5X memory. One notable feature is the integrated H100 with 96GB HBM3, surpassing the current standalone version’s 80GB total. The server also offers 3x PCIe Gen5 x16 slots and various storage options.

The front of the server houses eight E1.S slots, while the cooling for the GH200 is managed by a large heatsink that extends beyond the module and motherboard. Additional cooling is provided by a vertical M.2 riser board on the side of the GH200.

At the rear of the system, full-height expansion cards are available, enabling the use of other Arm-based systems powered by BlueField-3 DPUs. The compact motherboard allows for efficient cabling connections to other components, while the spacious design optimizes airflow to cool the GH200 and power-hungry BlueField-3 cards.

In addition to the ARS-111GL-NHR, Supermicro introduced several other NVIDIA MGX platforms, including liquid-cooled versions of the Grace Hopper server. The company has developed its own custom liquid cooling platform to support these servers.

The NVIDIA Grace Superchip and Grace Hopper parts have generated significant interest, with customers looking to leverage the compute capabilities for their next-generation projects. As demand for NVIDIA products continues to surge, Supermicro’s new MGX systems offer powerful solutions for compute-intensive workloads.

Overall, Supermicro’s latest NVIDIA MGX systems, including the ARS-111GL-NHR server, provide high-performance computing options designed to meet the demands of data centers and advanced computing applications.
