Nvidia has unveiled the release date for DLSS 3.5, a new technology aimed at enhancing the visual quality of ray-traced workloads and lighting. Unlike previous versions, DLSS 3.5 will be accessible to all users who have an RTX-equipped card, rather than requiring the latest RTX 40-series GPU.
The technology utilizes ray reconstruction to improve image quality by reducing artifacts commonly seen in ray-traced titles. DLSS 3.5 has undergone training on a significantly larger dataset compared to its predecessor, DLSS 3, allowing it to make more informed decisions using the data. This training was made possible through Nvidia’s AI supercomputer network.
In addition to improved visual quality, DLSS 3.5 may also result in a slight boost in performance when used in conjunction with DLSS 2 and 3 features in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
DLSS 3.5 will be initially available in the 2.0 patch of Cyberpunk 2077, scheduled for release on September 21. This release coincides with the launch of the game’s Phantom Liberty expansion on September 26. Jakub Knapik, VP of Art and Global Art Director at CD Projekt Red, praised DLSS 3.5 for its ability to provide sharper images, more accurate lighting, and higher frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
While Cyberpunk 2077 is the first game to utilize DLSS 3.5, it is expected that this technology will eventually be incorporated into other AAA titles. DLSS has long been a significant advantage for Nvidia over its competitor, AMD. However, AMD’s own FSR 3 technology is poised to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the market.
