Microsoft’s upcoming gamepad, codenamed Sebile, has the potential to become the new default Xbox controller in May 2024. Priced at $70, the Sebile controller is said to incorporate the best features of Sony’s DualSense, Valve’s Steam Controller, Google Stadia, and 8BitDo.
One notable feature of the Sebile controller is its “precision haptic feedback,” which is similar to the technology found in Sony’s DualSense controller. This haptic feedback adds a new dimension to gaming experiences and enhances gameplay immersion.
The Sebile controller also includes a gyroscope for improved aiming and a direct-to-cloud connection, allowing it to seamlessly control Xbox games on various devices such as consoles, mobile phones, PCs, and cloud gaming platforms.
The controller’s battery is rechargeable and swappable, offering the convenience of built-in lithium-ion battery technology while also accommodating standard AA batteries. It also features modular thumbsticks for improved longevity and the ability to seamlessly pair and switch between multiple devices.
The Sebile controller draws inspiration from various other controllers, such as the Steam Controller’s haptics and the direct-to-cloud connection pioneered by Google Stadia. Additionally, it aims to address the issue of stick drift with the incorporation of Gulikit Hall effect sensor joysticks.
Microsoft’s leaked documents indicate that the Sebile controller is already in development and is expected to launch in May 2024. It will be priced at $70 and will be bundled with every new Xbox sold starting in the fall of that year. However, it is worth noting that the full product vision for Sebile has not yet been approved, and there are other controller versions under discussion.
