Meta to Shut Down Three Virtual Reality Games

Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced that it will be shutting down three virtual reality (VR) games — Dead and Buried, Dead and Buried II, and Bogo. The tech giant sent an email to existing game owners, stating that support for these games will be discontinued on March 15, 2024.

Dead and Buried, released in 2016, was one of the first multiplayer VR shooters to explore room-scale gameplay. It offered co-op, PvP, and single-player modes. Dead and Buried II, released in May 2019, was a launch title for the original Oculus Quest. Bogo, a free Oculus Quest launch title, allowed users to raise and care for a virtual pet.

No explanation was provided by Meta regarding the decision to shut down these games. Users of the games can continue playing until 11.59 p.m. PT on March 15, 2024, on their Rift, Rift S, or Quest devices.

In other news, Meta has revealed its plans to expand its social VR app, Horizon Worlds, to the web and mobile. The company has rolled out its first Meta Horizon world, called Super Rumble, in early access for a limited number of users. It can be accessed through the Meta Quest app on Android, with iOS support coming in the following weeks. Additionally, early access is available via any web browser at horizon.meta.com.
