Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Introduces Zombies in the Modern Era

Call of Duty’s popular Zombies mode is making its debut in the modern era with the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The game’s publisher, Activision, released a teaser cinematic showcasing how the undead will be incorporated into the current era, including the use of zombies as a bioterrorism threat.

The new take on the Zombies mode comes from developers Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, who gave fans a sneak peek of what to expect in a cinematic. The mode will continue the Dark Aether narrative introduced in previous Call of Duty games such as Vanguard and Black Ops Cold War. In this narrative, Victor Zakhaev, the antagonist of Call of Duty: Warzone’s storyline, has become a mercenary and is selling vials of purple mist that turn people into zombies.

Players will take on the role of operatives from the spec ops team Task Force 141, which includes familiar characters like Johnny “Soap” MacTavish and Simon “Ghost” Riley. They will be joined by Sergei Ravenov from Black Ops Cold War, who has experience dealing with zombie infestations.

The Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3 will immerse players in an open-world, player-versus-environment (PvE) extraction survival experience. The trailer showcases a modern military response to the zombie threat, giving off a more grounded and serious tone compared to previous Zombies efforts by Treyarch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, including the new Zombies mode, will be available on November 10 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
