A Brand New Xbox Series X Console Refresh Coming Next Year

According to court documents revealed during the FTC v Microsoft case, a new Xbox Series X console refresh is set to launch next year. This new console, codenamed Brooklin, will be an all-digital version, eliminating the disc drive found in the original model. However, it will come with 2TB of internal storage, as well as improvements such as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. It will also feature a 15% reduction in PSU power, making it more efficient and sustainable.

The Brooklin console is scheduled to be released around late October 2024, with an official announcement expected between June and July. Despite these upgrades, the price will remain the same as the base model, at $499 / £449 / AU$749.

In addition to the Xbox Series X refresh, its sibling system, the Xbox Series S, is also set to receive an update. Codenamed Ellewood, the revision is expected to launch around the end of August next year. While it won’t undergo major changes like the Brooklin console, it will still offer sustainability improvements, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support. The Xbox Series S (Ellewood) will be priced at $299.99 / £249.99 / AU$499.

Both consoles will come bundled with an updated Xbox Wireless Controller, codenamed Sebile. This new controller will feature haptic feedback and improved compatibility with Xbox Cloud Gaming and mobile pairing. The court document also mentions the inclusion of “new modular thumbsticks” that offer improved longevity, hinting at the possibility of Hall effect sticks.

The Sebile gamepad is expected to launch around late May 2024, and it will come bundled with both the Xbox Series X and S console refreshes when they are released later in the year.
